American tech giant Apple is all set to move its local workforce into a new seven-storey office block in the centre of Cambridge.
The 80,000 sq. ft. Station Road building can accommodate up to 900 employees, a reality, insiders say, that could see the iPhone maker embark on a major recruitment drive for highly skilled workers in the city.
Described as a ‘cube within a cube’, Apple’s new offices were designed by architecture and design practice tp bennett. Developer Brookgate says interior fit-out works are currently underway and are expected to be completed by September.
Apple has been planning the move since 2019, having filled its current 90 Hills Road premises. Apple will join the likes of Amazon, Microsoft, Samsung and WeWork in the CB1 development, which has been designed with sustainability at its forefront.
It has brown and green roofs that provide habitats for bats, kestrels and other species. It also has 302 cycle parking spaces and a basement car park with room for 51 vehicles, as well as 10 electrical charging ports.

Sven Topel, Brookgate’s chief executive, said: “The completion of 30 Station Road is an important moment in the delivery of the central business district for Cambridge.
“CB1 has grown into an undisputed destination for research, tech and professional service companies in the heart of the city, with 30 Station Road set to welcome another global name to the estate, further establishing the development’s position as a hub for world-leading employers.”
Melanie Collett, of Aviva Investors which part-funded the building, added: “30 Station Road – and the wider CB1 development – is an exciting, flagship project in our UK real estate strategy, and we are thrilled to see it reach this milestone.
“Cambridge itself is a dynamic city, which excels as a location catering to cutting-edge companies as much as it does families and a highly employable talent pool. It is a hub that typifies our activities in local regions across the country and a place we think is one of the most exciting and attractive markets in UK real estate.”
