A new scholarship has been launched to boost young people’s interest in the aviation and aerospace sector.
The scholarship is the brainchild of The Air League, the UK’s leading aviation and aerospace charity, which has been working with Marshall Aerospace – one of the largest privately owned, independent aerospace and defence companies in the UK – for the past six months to bring the opportunity to life.
Under the scholarship, four individuals will get the opportunity to shadow engineering and maintenance personnel at Cambridge City Airport, as well as work on current projects being undertaken by Marshall at the airport.
The scheme will also include full board accommodation for the 2-week duration of the scholarship and travel costs can be covered.
Applications opened on 17 April and will close on 21 May.
The scholarship is open to all who would be interested in sparking a career in the aviation sector. Applicants must be 18 or over by 1 June 2023, a UK citizen, and an Air League Member.
Interested parties can easily become an Air League member by signing up for an individual membership on the charity’s website.
Ian Morrison, CEO of Air League said: “At The Air League, our vision is to change lives through aviation and believe there should be no educational, financial, or social barriers for those who want to succeed.
“We’re therefore thrilled to be working with Marshall Aerospace to provide four new paid scholarships for the next generation of aspiring aerospace engineers.
“Marshall is a stalwart of the local aviation industry, and their support sends a strong signal of how important it is for businesses across the industry to support paid placement schemes like this one.”
Neil McManus, Managing Director, Marshall Aerospace, added: “Marshall has a proud history of supporting young people to launch their careers in Aerospace Engineering and we are delighted to be involved in this new initiative, particularly at a time when our industry is facing such a significant skills shortage.”
