Cambridgeshire data centre campus takes huge step forward with funding deal

A new 700,000 sq. ft. data centre campus in Cambridgeshire has taken a huge step towards becoming a reality after the site’s owners agreed a new funding package.

If completed, the data centre in Sutton, which will target the county’s cluster of global tech operators located in the so-called “Golden Triangle” between Cambridge, Oxford and London, will be among the biggest in the UK.

Topland Group has agreed to refinance Camro Data Campus on behalf of its owners, Lasercharm, with a £9.25m, two-year loan through its structured finance division.

Lasercharm will now seek detailed consent before marketing the 43-acre site to a specialist developer, occupier-developer or cloud service provider during the term of this new loan.

With the ever-increasing shortage of power in London, Camro Data Campus will provide key data centre growth for the region’s myriad of tech companies. Adjoining the Camro site is a further 50 acres (20.25 hectares) of land available for expansion/renewable power solutions subject to planning.

The data centre campus will also be relatively green compared to most, thanks to the topography of the site and local climate conditions, which will allow it to operate efficiently with minimal use of energy for cooling systems. This is a significant selling point for Camro Data Campus given the enormous focus organisations have right now on ESG.
