A Cambridgeshire city has been named as one of the most underrated places for young people to live in the UK.

Peterborough came fourth in a list of ‘hidden gems that tick all of the boxes for 18-34-year-olds’, compiled by Compare My Move.

Despite being situated in the East of England–which usually accompanies the South East, South West and London in the most expensive regions in the UK–Peterborough was revealed to be one of the best places in the country when it comes to the cost of living.

In fact, Peterborough’s monthly cost of living of £1,249 and rent and utility prices of £678 are the lowest outside the North of England. Furthermore, the cost of buying a flat in Peterborough is also fairly low for the area at £124,347.

With an employment rate of 80%, Peterborough is also higher than the top three cities (Wigan (70%), York (79.4%) and Derby (79.8%)), meaning that there are plenty of job opportunities for young adults moving to Peterborough.

Peterborough’s nightlife is also appealing for most young people, with a host of bars, pubs and venues known for their live music, such as The Met Lounge and Embassy.
