Tech Nation, the UK network for ambitious tech entrepreneurs and startups, has announced the 33 regional winners in the fifth iteration of its early stage scaleup competition, Rising Stars. Among the list of nominees, which are being touted as businesses to watch in 2023, are three promising Cambridge-based businesses – Purrmetrix, Medwise.ai, and RippleXn – each with its own unique approach to solving some of today's most pressing challenges.
Purrmetrix, a company that produces IoT sensors for monitoring environmental conditions, has developed a unique approach to indoor air quality management. Its sensors monitor humidity, temperature, and CO2 levels, providing real-time data that enables users to optimise their indoor environments for comfort, health, and productivity.
Purrmetrix co-founder Hermione Crease said: “At a time when getting housing to net zero is urgent we are so excited to be recognised as a Tech Nation Rising Star regional winner.
“Purrmetrix is building the tools to make it easy to measure housing and heating performance, helping our customers target and manage their housing retrofit.
“As we build on our initial market traction, the Rising Star programme validates our approach and will help us raise our profile with investors, customers and landlords.”
Medwise.ai is another exciting Cambridge-based startup that made the list. The company uses artificial intelligence to analyse medical data and provide instant answers to clinical questions. Think of it as the Google for doctors.
Medwise.ai co-founder Dr Keith Tsui, said: “At Medwise.ai, we are very proud to be a Tech Nation Rising Stars 5.0 East England Regional Winner amongst other outstanding companies from the region.
“Our mission is to empower clinicians to do their best work and provide better patient care. Tech Nation provided an abundance of support and we are excited by the opportunities Tech Nation brings to further scale our search product to support clinicians across the UK.”
RippleXn is the third Cambridge-based startup on the list. It’s a compliance monitoring SaaS platform for the creator economy which enables brands to ensure advertising compliance is met in real-time, at scale across social video
RippleXn co-founder Adrian Land, said: “Cambridge is well-known for innovation and globally renowned technology businesses, so to win the Rising Stars category here is hugely gratifying. We have global aspirations and a genuine opportunity to be pioneers not only in what we do, but how we do it. The team and I thank Tech Nation for recognising a small company with a big idea.”
The 33 regional Rising Stars comprise the three most promising tech companies from 11 regions and nations of the UK, including East of England, North East, South West, Midlands, Scotland, North West, London, Wales, South East, Northern Ireland, Yorkshire & the Humber.
The Regional Winners will progress to the semi finals this month and the competition will culminate with a showcase of the top 10 national champions in March.
