Lab Technician

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Lab Technician to support the development and testing of new analytical instruments for a company based in Cambridge.

Responsibilities

* Carry out testing and validation of instrument prototypes
* Prepare standardised samples and solutions for testing
* Carry out standard operating procedures for testing the sensitivity and accuracy of the Company's prototype instruments
* Carefully and diligently record and analyse results, and communicate these to senior staff
* Keep risk assessments and COSHH forms up to date
* Provide first class technical support for senior scientists
* Contribute on-request to the leading-edge research projects of senior scientists
* Perform laboratory management, including maintaining equipment and lab stocks
* Manage orders for the laboratory
* Assist with keeping laboratory documentation up to date
* Attend and participate in group and project meetings
* Contribute to the development of novel analytical instruments for performing measurements on proteins
* Improve released products by providing constructive feedback on prototype and development models
* Input to the development of procedures for instrument testing and validation
* Ensure the smooth and efficient running of laboratories
* Take a lead role in organising the laboratory space
* Suggest improvements to the laboratories that will improve work efficiency and/or employee satisfaction
* Contribute to the diversification of the product portfolio to identify and exploit key market opportunities
* Aid in identifying new technologies and suppliers that could lead to product innovation
* Describe, explain and demonstrate instruments to visitors and interested parties

Requirements

* Tertiary qualification in science
* Prior experience in a laboratory technician role
* Prior experience working with proteins desirable
* Attention to detail and a strong work ethic are critical
* Ambition to strive for technical excellence
* Ability to work in a small company environment
* Experience working in an SME (small to medium-sized enterprise) beneficial but not essential
* Independent, efficient and precise approach to laboratory work
* Competence, integrity and communication
